"Orange Julius"
Turmeric is a staple in my kitchen, it is known for its anti-inflammatory properties along with benefits to arthritis as well as anxiety. This rhizome can also help with soreness, enhancing recovery from physical activity.
You can use this recipe with grapefruit or any citrus you enjoy. As I understand it; in order for your body to metabolize and absorb the benefits of turmeric, you need fat and the pepper.
Ingredients:
- Fresh Turmeric (2 inch knob)
- Ginger (½ inch Knob)
- Black Pepper
- Fresh Orange Juice
- Coconut Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Directions:
- Cut and juice your oranges. Depending on how much you want to make and how juicy your citrus is will be the deciding factor in how many oranges to use. I like only to cut 2 or 3 oranges at a time and juice them to see how much juice they make, then proceed.
- Peel the Turmeric and Ginger (Turmeric will stain. Use gloves and be careful of your counters.)
- Add the citrus, ginger, and turmeric to the blender along with ¼ teaspoon of black peppercorn and ½ teaspoon of oil.
- Blend on high and then drink right away. As you can see in the picture, the juice will have a bit of froth at the top, hence why I call this "Orange Julius.”
